Tax
Assessor-Collector Loraine Neuman was appointed to office in January
of 1987. She has been elected to the office of
tax assessor-collector of Medina County four consecutive times.
Additionally, Mrs. Neuman serves as the Voter Registrar,
responsible for the integrity of the voter registration rolls.
As the Tax Assessor-Collector, Mrs. Neuman is
responsible for the collection and disbursement of millions of
dollars of revenue each year and a staff of 12 employees. She
operates two substations, in Castroville and Devine, Texas. Both
substations conduct motor vehicle registration and titles only.
Mrs. Neuman is certified by the State of Texas as
Registered Texas Assessor-Collector (R.T.A.), and has earned the
distinguished title of Certified Tax Assessor, (C.T.A.). She also
serves as a member of the Board of Directors for the Medina County
Appraisal District. She and her staff strive to be a very responsive
and efficient Tax Office, to help the public in every way, her chief
deputy, Jane Guerrero, has twenty-five years experience in tax
appraisal and tax collections, and is certified by the State of
Texas as Registered Texas Assessor-Collector.
Mrs. Neuman has 30 years experience in the County
Tax Office having started work in 1971 typing tax rolls and
statements on an old manual typewriter. She served as Chief Deputy
to the prior Tax Assessor-Collector for twelve years before
accepting the appointment to the office.
A native of Medina County, Mrs. Neuman has lived
in Hondo for over 40 years and is the mother of two sons and a
daughter, and grandmother of five.
The chief goal of her office is striving for
excellence through education and community awareness. She has
adopted the motto, "Always do the right thing and live with the
consequences." |
